Welcome%20to%20Arizona%21 You%20are%20here%2E%2E%2E%2E An%20interesting%20rock%20formation We%20get%20to%20the%20Arizona%20State%20Line%20at%20Fredonia Nedra%27s%20Cafe%20%2D%20we%20stopped%20here%20for%20dinner%20before%20getting%20to%20the%20Kaibab%20Forest Before%20reaching%20our%20destination%20of%20Kaibab%2C%20the%20sun%20starts%20to%20set It%27s%20%20a%20beautiful%20sunset%2C%20but%20we%20must%20watch%20out%20%20%2D%20I%20had%20run%20over%20a%20jackrabbit%20that%20jumped%20under%20my%20front%20wheel Our%20cabin%20%2D%20very%20rustic%20%2D%20no%20frig%2C%20no%20tv%2C%20no%20coffeemaker%21%20%20And%20it%20got%20very%20cold%20at%20night The%20gravel%20lot%20was%20very%20hard%20to%20manuever%2C%20luckily%20there%20was%20a%20patch%20of%20cement%20to%20rest%20on Coffee%21%21%21%21%21 The%20next%20morning%20we%20are%20able%20to%20see%20the%20view%20from%20our%20balcony There%20are%20a%20few%20deer%20back%20behind%20our%20cabin The%20view%20of%20the%20Kaibab%20National%20Forest%20and%20the%20only%20entrance%20to%20the%20North%20Rim Packing%20up%20for%20a%20trip%20to%20the%20Grand%20Canyon The%20long%20road%20at%20the%20entrance%20to%20the%20park The%20entrance%20to%20the%20park We%20made%20it%21 The%20lodge%20at%20the%20North%20Rim Breathtaking%20beauty%20as%20we%20view%20the%20North%20Rim%20of%20the%20Grand%20Canyon%20near%20Bright%20Angel%20Point Pictures%20do%20not%20do%20it%20justice%20%2D%20you%20should%20see%20this%20for%20yourself%21 There%20is%20still%20a%20haze%20in%20the%20air%20from%20the%20recent%20forest%20fires A%20close%2Dup%20of%20the%20canyon%20walls A%20sign%20pointing%20the%20way%20for%20hikers The%20hiking%20trail%20looks%20challenging narley%2E%2E%2E%2E%2Ea%20sight%20along%20the%20hiking%20trail Betty%20is%20enthralled Hmmm%2E%2E%2E%2E Can%20you%20tell%20I%27m%20afraid%20of%20heights%2E%2E%2E%2E%2E This%20cute%20fella%20was%20running%20around%20nearby The%20devasting%20aftermath%20of%20the%20forest%20fires%20at%20the%20North%20Rim%20%2D%20the%20air%20was%20heavy%20with%20the%20smell%20of%20burning%20embers We%20are%20saddened%20by%20seeing%20this%20large%20area%20affected%20by%20the%20fires Betty%20took%20this%20close%20up%20of%20a%20sapling%20destroyed We%20did%20not%20see%20this%20when%20we%20arrived%20in%20the%20dark%20%2D%20but%20there%20was%20a%20burnt%20odor After%20leaving%20the%20Grand%20Canyon%2C%20we%20stop%20here%20because%20it%20is%20116%20degrees%20%2D%20the%20extreme%20heat%20is%20taking%20a%20toll%20on%20us The%20lodge%20here%20was%20very%20clean%20and%20provided%20relief%20from%20the%20heat%20%2D%20plus%20the%20food%20was%20great%21 Our%20bikes%20out%20front%20and%20Vermillion%20Cliffs%20in%20the%20background Across%20the%20road%20from%20the%20lodge%20is%20Vermillion%20Cliffs The%20cliffs%20are%20very%20colorful The%20rocks%20around%20Cliff%20Dwellers One%20of%20the%20dwellings The%20earth%20is%20very%20red%20here%20with%20lots%20of%20rocks%20and%20not%20much%20else An%20interesting%20shape Inside%20one%20of%20the%20rock%20dwellings This%20used%20to%20be%20a%20service%20station%20back%20in%20the%20day%20%281940s%29 Inside%20the%20service%20station The%20service%20station A%20balancing%20act What%20does%20this%20look%20like%3F The%20evening%20sun%20streaking%20through%20the%20clouds%20behind%20the%20lodge As%20the%20sun%20sets%2C%20we%20are%20able%20to%20relax%20a%20bit%20outdoors%2E%20Betty%27s%20camping%20stool%20came%20in%20handy A%20call%20home%20%2D%20this%20is%20a%20luxury%20because%20cell%20phone%20service%20is%20not%20widely%20available%20like%20it%20is%20back%20home Vermillion%20cliffs%20at%20sunrise%20as%20we%20prepare%20to%20head%20for%20Paige%20for%20new%20tires A%20sign%20as%20we%20leave%20Cliff%20Dwellers As%20we%20leave%20Cliff%20Dwellers%20towards%20Paige%2C%20we%20cross%20the%20Colorado%20River The%20sky%20is%20reflected%20in%20the%20calm%20Colorado%20River We%20stop%20along%20the%20road%20for%20goods%20sold%20by%20the%20Navajos We%20find%20some%20beautiful%20dream%20catchers%20and%20native%20American%20jewelry%20while%20enjoying%20the%20scenery We%20leave%20Page%20with%20new%20tires%20%2D%20turns%20out%20there%20was%20a%20slice%20of%20metal%20in%20my%20back%20tire A%20mesa%20as%20we%20get%20closer%20to%20Monument%20Valley An%20example%20of%20a%20mud%20home%20at%20the%20Navajo%20National%20Memorial%20entrance The%20Navajo%20National%20Memorial%20building%20at%20Monument%20Valley The%20entrance%20to%20Monument%20Valley In%20the%20distance%20is%20one%20of%20the%20mittens
