DITR Ride to Dinosaur Land
July 10, 2009 • by ET
It was a beautiful day, the sky was so blue, and the breeze made it even more comfortable. The plan was to meet at Bob Evans at 9:15 am and kick stands up at 9:30. We had a full complement of riders today; 6 bikes! We haven’t had a group this size in awhile, have to say, it was nice. We couldn’t ask for a better day to share our passion for riding. Lynn, our road captain was armed with the routes for the day, so we all followed her, like a Mother Hen and her chicks in line out of the Bob Evan’s parking lot.
Our first stop was at Haymarket for gas and a short break before heading down route 55. This route is really a nice route to ride on such a beautiful day; I was so taken by the views and the colors of summer, to be able to ride and see the world in the raw, it makes my passion for riding even deeper, to the very depths of my soul. There were a lot of other bikers out enjoying their passion as well.
We stopped again at Upperville for a short break. I took some pictures of the group in the parking lot, having some good laughs and fun. On to Dinosaur Land we headed. Once at Dinosaur Land, I took some pictures of the group getting their selves set for an adventure of their life, walking in the midst of Dinosaurs; oh my!!!! WARNING; when viewing the pictures, please beware that some pictures are graphic in nature and may not be suitable for young children! Sorry, couldn’t resist the opportunity; it put a smile on my face… It’s a pretty cool place as you can see by the pictures. And for the young kids, it is filled with lots of fun and leaning at the same time.
We headed towards Winchester for lunch; Dinosaur Land is about 10 miles from Winchester. As we were stopped at a red light, I noticed that the sky was no longer a pretty blue, it was becoming gray. On our way to the restaurant the sky started to spit as us some, so it was decided to head towards home in hopes of out-running the impending storm. It didn’t happen, and before we knew it, the storm was right over our heads. So we took refuge at Pizza Hut until the storm pasted.
It came down pretty good, and after awhile the sky cleared and the weather was looking pretty good at Winchester. We headed to 50 East towards home. A few miles down the road past the Winchester Harley Davidson dealership, we caught up with the storm. The rain was so heavy, cars were pulled over to the side of the road. But we Diamonds are a tough group. We rode a little further down the road and then we had to stop for a break. The rain lightens up some again, and we headed down the road only to catch it again. So this time, we took refuge in a gas station.
We rode off and on in rain all the way home. Hey it wouldn’t be a ride event if we didn’t have at least one ride a year filled with some drama!!! We all made it home SAFE and SOUND, and very wet. Even in a rain storm, a day on two wheels is a good day; right ladies!!!!
