DITR Ride to Air Circus: Bealeton, Virginia
20 September 2009 • by Ellen
When I step out of my house, I couldn’t believe my eyes; it truly was a biker’s day. The weather was just beautiful; it’s a day that bikers dream of every day. Low temperatures and even a bigger plus low humidity and it was an overcast day, no hot sun to deal with. I had to pinch myself to make sure I didn’t go to biker heaven.
Not only was I delirious from the beautiful weather, when I arrived to the storage bin, I saw Rosie’s husband Pat. He told me that Rosie wanted to see me at their storage bin. When I turned the corner, I saw Rosie in her riding gear. I really had to have someone pinch me for sure now; it was so good to see Rosie on the bike, she said she couldn’t take it any more; she needed to go on a short ride.
We met at Bob Evans around 10:30. Those that went on this beautiful day were: Lynn, Rosie (short distance) and me. We also had two guest riders with us - Linda and her husband Freddy. We headed towards Warrenton by way of Prince William Parkway to Route 29 into town. We stopped in Warrenton for lunch at the Molly’s Irish Pub, pretty good sandwiches with a really nice atmosphere; it seems a lot of bikers stopped in for a relaxing break. I believe Linda and her husband visit this place often.
After lunch we headed toward the Air Circus by way of Route 17: The flying circus is located 14 miles south of Warrenton, VA and 22 miles north of Fredericksburg, VA off Route 17 on Route 644 near Bealeton.
After parking the bikes we walked thru the car show they were having as well. There were some really cool old cars. No matter how old or young, there were cars and trucks to take one back to their wild and crazy youth. They also had a country band kicking up the tunes, not too bad to say the least.
The air show started at 2:30 and we found some pretty good seats off the air field. It was pretty amazing watching these War World I and War World II planes still taking to the sky, makes one want to learn to fly one. The show was really good, and I recommend anybody that hasn’t seen this event, make time to go at least once, you won’t be sorry!!!
The show starts off with a parachute jumper as he glides down carrying the American Flag. Then you will see a wingwalker - he walks the wing of the plane as it’s high in the air, and then hangs by his ankles from the wing. And on top of that, you'll never guess what, there is NO NET!!! They perform a lot more stunts in the air, way too much to add in this ride report.
The only bad thing of this beautiful day, there wasn’t any time for an ice cream break. Maybe next ride!!! I would like to thank Linda and her husband for joining us on this ride and hope to see Linda on more rides. And of course, her husband is more than welcome to join in, and we won’t make him shave his legs!!!!
