I met Sherry at Bob Evans off 123 and we headed up Rt. 7 towards Leesburg, and at Leesburg we picked up Rt 15. Stopping in Thurmont, we picked up Yvonne and other friend Grace, and off to Gettysburg we headed. We arrived at the Days Inn in Gettysburg around 11:30, but our rooms weren't ready yet. The hotel clerk let us stole our bags in the back office, and we headed for lunch. When our rooms were ready, we checked in and then headed out to Battlefield HD. Of course I had to get a T-shirt! We then headed to Boyd's Bear Factory. On the way to the bear factory, we rode into a thunderstorm, so we took cover under an over pass along with 10 other bikes. Once the storm passed, we started back down the road. The sky started to get dark again, so we decided to head back to the hotel. By the time we got back, the sun was out - go figure. Saturday morning we finally got to go to Boyd's Bear Factory, and of course I had to buy a bear! Afterwards, we got back to the hotel for the bike games. As we watch, Sherry gives me a hard time, because we both should have signed up for this event. Next year!. When the bike games were over, Sherry, myself and Nadine's other friend headed back to downtown Gettysburg to the Lincoln Train Museum. It is pretty cool - a little history, plus over a 1000 toy trains on display. It was getting time to get back to the hotel to line up for the Parade Of Chrome. The parade left for downtown Gettysburg at 4:30. It was pretty cool to have cars blow their horns and people standing and watching about 200 women on bikes pass by in support of the Susan G. Komen Foundation. At the end of the parade, I pulled my bike up to the pin striping booth and had some work done. At our next monthly ride, you all will have to tell me what you think. The banquet started at 6:00, and the first speaker was the Mayor of Gettysburg. By the end of the banquet the unofficial count of funds raised was over $16,000; I believe they are looking at $22,000+ once the count is final. Two women rode from Canada for this event - pretty cool. Sunday morning we ate breakfast and packed up and headed back home. It was such a beautiful ride home, Sherry and I took the long way home, and I didn't want to get off my bike, I reluctantly pointed her home. It was a wonderful weekend, met some really nice women, with some really cool bikes. Couldn't ask for a better time (even with the thunderstorm) to be with women that have a passion for riding coming together for a good cause. |
