We have had so much rain the last few weeks or so, I had to check my feet to make sure they didn’t start looking like ducks feet!!!!
It was a beautiful day, no dark clouds in sight and low 70s in temperature, great riding weather for sure!!! Rosie had invited a guess to join us for the day, and since it was only her, Sharon, and I going on this ride, I agreed to meet her and her guest at the Exxon station in Manassas off of the Prince William Parkway!!! We were to have met at 10:00 with kick stands up at 10:15.
I had gone down to the garage to get the bikes out, and I pulled Sharon’s bike out and rode it up to the house, then I went down to get my bike, I had noticed there was some oil on the floor were Sharon’s bike was parked. We both had just gotten our 15,000 mile check up on the bikes. Once I got back to the house, I looked under her bike and noticed a lot of oil around the oil cylinder, so I cleaned it up to see if it would leak again or just sloppy work!!! I txt Rosie, and told her what was going on, and that we would be leaving later than expected. After a short while, I checked and the oil cylinder was still dry, so it looked good to go. I txt Rosie, and told her we should be there around 10:30 or so.
As we pulled into the Exxon station, Sharon and I both went to top off our gas tanks. There was this big pickup truck using the pump on the other side from me, I had noticed that we was checking his phone and then I heard his door close and he pulls off. All of a sudden, I hear this pop and medal dragging on the ground, I looked and the guy was so involved on his cell phone that he forgot to finish pumping gas into his truck, and drove off with the pump hose still attacked. He stops and gets out and looked at me and said, “I forgot I didn’t finish!!!” ? People keep saying, cell phones aren’t a distraction, all I could think of, I hope he isn’t going to be anywhere around us today!!!! After we finished topping off our tanks, I wanted to look under Sharon’s bike to make sure there wasn’t any oil leaking, and there wasn’t, so it turned out to be sloppy work!!!!
As we pulled out of the gas station, I noticed the attendant putting the gas hose back on the pump, what a hoot!!! The ride to the Moonshine farm was GREAT (as Tony the tiger would say). Now picture this; we turned on the road to the farm and we all have show room clean bikes, and we just pulled on a dirt and gravel road (not a lot of gravel), to add insult to that, we crossed over a small area that was wet and a little mud!!! When we pulled into the parking area, I get off my bike and it isn’t show room clean anymore!!! I walked over to Rosie’s bike and she said “not only was I eating all of your dust the whole way, what I didn’t eat, ended up on my bike!!
This farm was really nice and nestled back in the country; it was really relaxing. We walked into the store and the owner’s wife was at the cash register waiting on some customers. After a few minutes the owner comes from the back of the store, and asked if we wanted a tour on how to make Moonshine?! He showed us this big board with pictures of about 8 or so steps on how to make Moonshine, if you wanted to make it yourself!!
The tour was very interesting, at one part of the tour he showed us dark whiskey being made, that they put wood chips in for color, when he opened up the lid, boy could you smell the whiskey, good thing you can’t get drunk smelling, or can you???! I believe he said his great grandfather started making Moonshine, I don’t believe it was legal then.
The tour ended at a small gift shop and of course everybody was picking out their goodies. There is no way you are going to leave this place without getting some Moonshine!!! I believe we all got our bottles of Moonshine!!!
I went out on the little pouch and sat in a rocking chair just soaking in the peace and quiet of the area, plus the beautiful ride!!!! We start to head towards the bikes, and I noticed and old 20s truck in this little half open shed, as I walked up to it, I looked at Rosie and said “what would make this really cool, is some bullet holes,” I walked around the front of the truck and sure enough there were some in the windshield, I just couldn’t believe it!!!! Now whether they were staged bullet holes or actual ones, who’s to know, but it was way cool!!! If you didn’t make this trip, you don’t know what you missed!!!
