Yvonne and I met at Hedges Run; kick stands up at 7:20 - we wanted to get a good line up position at the Pentagon North parking lot. We arrived at 7:45 and half of the north parking lot was full. Everybody was showing up do to cooler weather
this year.
Once we were lined up, we went and looked at some of the stuff they were selling. Yvonne got a T-Shirt. We walked around and looked at the really cool bikes, and then found a spot on the grass and watched all the bikes coming in. At 10:00 we walked up to the road, and Patriots HD of Fairfax was arriving. It was
really an awesome sight, and it took over an hour for them to arrive. I'm not really sure how many bikes, it took even longer for them to get into the parking lot since it was pretty full by then. We headed back to the parking lot and got a sandwich and a drink, and talked to a few Vietnam vets thru-out the morning. Then when we headed back to the bike, I had noticed the guy parked next to my bike had Winterville Ohio on the back of his vest. Since that is my hometown, I had to talk to him. He told me that 18 bikes from our hometown and Pittsburgh was there! It sure was good to see my hometown in force. I thought it was so ironic that we were parked next to each other. At 12:00 we started hearing the thunder and watched the first bikes pull out. We pulled out at 1:10. Yvonne's
job was to take the pictures along the way. She did an awesome job, don't you think? It was a wonderful day, and I have to give a big "HOOAH" to our troops. |
