At our DITR March meeting, Jeanne told us about the Can Am Spyder demo rides that were going to be at Coleman's this weekend. I had wanted to try it the first time the demo rides were available, but did not do so. So here was another chance to see what it would be like to ride this 3-wheeler that looks so radically different. Bobbie met me there with her friend Paula, and Jeanne came, too. There were free hot dogs, and a sizeable crowd. Bobbie & Jeannie opted not to demo the trike. Before being allowed to ride the Spyder, we were all given a breathalyzer test, and watched a video on how this machine handles differently from a motorcycle. Then we were allowed a practice run in the parking lot. |

The riding position for a short person like me is a bit uncomfortable-I had to lean far forward to reach the handlebars. The seat was wide, and foot position was tucked backward. Instrument panel was easy to read-it included time,
temperature, and it even let you know what gear you are in. The trunk in front is large, and I think it is equivalent to two large saddlebags. We finally get to go out on the road, and it took some getting used to. We got quite a few stares from people in cars. I thought it handled very well, especially around corners.
And it accelerates quickly with good throttle response. After getting back from the ride, the four of us chatted a bit longer, then bid adieu. I'm so glad riding season is here! |
